SAX Company History

1888
Invention of thumbnails made of one piece of strip steel by Heinrich Sachs. Mass production with 5 finish tacks per cut. Founding of the company HEINRICH SACHS.

1905
Ludwig Sachs writes his dissertation in chemistry, Otto Hromatka is born. 

1919
The form of the current SAX paper clips DIOSCUR (with v-form tip) is first entered into the commercial register.

1920 
The company founder Dr. Ludwig Sachs's son takes over the company. Over the course of his life he submits numerous patents for office products. 

1931
The Heinrich Sachs portfolio is first expanded to include hole punches and staplers, mass production begins.


1938
The families Sachs and Pollak are forced to leave Austria because of the Nazi occupation.

1945-47
Members of the Sachs and Pollak families return to Austria from exile.

1965-1966 
The family run business is transformed into a limited company (GmbH).

1999 
Launch of the line "Century Line" (Hole punches and staplers).

1999 
SAX and CRETACOLOR join to be sister companies through acquisitions by the Imarco H. Hromatka Beteiligungs GmbH.

1999 
SAX and CRETACOLOR merge production, storage and sales.

2001 
SAX, CRETACOLOR and CRETACOLOR JUNIOR operate under the name of Heinrich Sachs KG”.

2007 
Imarco H. Hromatka takes over Brevillier-Urban with its brand JOLLY from the Kirchdorfer Gruppe. 

2008
Heinrich Sachs KG and the Brevillier-Urban Schreibwaren GmbH merge and start operations as Brevillier Urban & Sachs GmbH & Co KG. The CEO is Alexander Juan Hromatka.
